Civil Litigation

Litigation is often an expensive and uncertain proposition. We know that commercial reality often necessitates that a settlement be reached prior to trial and we are skilled at traditional negotiation techniques. However, where a settlement is not possible, we will work closely with you to keep you informed and manage various aspects of the litigation process, whether you are looking for a full-service approach or only for help with certain stages of your case.

Our civil litigation practice group deals with matters involving:

  • Construction Law including Builders Liens

  • Commercial Litigation

  • Debtor/Creditor

  • Landlord-Tenant Disputes

  • General Dispute Resolution

  • Supreme Court and Court of Appeal
  • Small Claims Court

Supreme Court and Court of Appeal

The Supreme Court of British Columbia is the province’s superior trial court. It can hear any type of case, civil or criminal. It hears most appeals from the Small Claims Court and appeals from arbitrations. A party may appeal a decision of the Supreme Court to the Court of Appeal.

Our lawyers have experience at all levels of the Court in a wide variety of civil litigation matters. We also assist clients in identifying and mitigating risks that could lead to new legal exposures. Our knowledge of our client’s business enables us to intervene effectively to avoid lengthy proceedings or to achieve cost-effective and innovative solutions outside the court system.

Litigation can be lengthy and costly. A good lawyer can help the parties narrow and focus on the real issues that need to be resolved and steer the litigation through the court system as quickly and as cost effectively as possible.
