Alan Freckelton

Lawyer

Alan Freckelton was born in Australia and was admitted to practice in that country in 1997. He worked as both a private and public sector lawyer in Australia before moving to Canada with his family in 2010.

Alan obtained his Masters in Law at the University of British Columbia in 2012, was admitted to practice as a lawyer in both Ontario and British Columbia in 2013, and is currently licensed to practice in British Columbia. Alan has 20 years of experience in the Australian immigration field, is a registered Australian migration agent (one of only two in British Columbia), and continues to teach the Australian National University’s online course in Australian Migration Law from Canada.

Alan’s main field of expertise is administrative law, or challenging of decisions made by all levels of government. The subject of his thesis was a comparison of Canadian administrative law, particularly the concept of substantive review, with administrative law systems in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. He also has experience in Canadian immigration law and in litigation generally.

When not working, Alan spends his time with his wife, Vikki, and the five of their seven children who accompanied them to Canada, writing fiction (his current effort is a screenplay about the “talking mongoose” hoax on the Isle of Man in the 1930s), and trying to keep up with the twists and turns of Dr. Who and Thomas the Tank Engine that his children explain to him seemingly without provocation.
