Julian was born in Essex, England, but spent most of his childhood in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He resides in West Vancouver with his wife and three daughters.

Prior to attending Law School, Julian attended Trent University in Ontario (Sciences) and then University of Manitoba (Statistics and Economics).

Julian moved to British Columbia in 1980 to attend Law School at UBC. He graduated in 1983 and was
called to the Bar in 1984. His formative years as a lawyer were spent with a large downtown law firm.
Ultimately he discovered the joys of practicing on the North Shore in 1994.

In 2003, having worked with Don Baron and Myrle Lawrence for many years, Julian founded Veritas Law in conjunction with Don Baron and Myrle Lawrence.

 

Julian practices primarily in two areas.

 

Firstly, he has practiced extensively for over 35 years as a Business lawyer. As a Business lawyer he has many years of experience with companies, structuring, shareholder agreements, franchises, professional incorporations, purchases and sales of businesses, amalgamations, leases and the myriad of other legal matters that businesses must deal with. Julian has been involved in businesses as an owner and an investor. As a result, he can offer his clients practical/realistic legal advice, not merely academic legal advice. Julian's business clients range between new businesses, developing businesses, small niche businesses, family operated businesses and large national or international businesses.

Secondly, Julian has extensive real estate experience. He has over 35 years of experience in commercial real estate, real estate developing, borrowing and lending, residential conveyancing and other real estate matters. Julian counts many of the North Shore's top realtors as his clients, together with many real estate developers and other lawyers and accountants that need real estate or business advice.

Outside of business hours, Julian has been extensively involved in many community functions.

 

He played and was very involved with the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club since he arrived in British
Columbia, was the President of the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club for many years and he coached Juniors for 20 years, including coaching all 3 daughter's field hockey teams. He is an avid skier and is a Level 2 Coach and Instructor. He is an enthusiastic, but very poor, squash player. During the summer, he can be found huffing and puffing up hills on his bike.

Heather joined Veritas Law in 2008 and works primarily in the area of real estate law. On a typical day, she will assist in a wide range of transactions. Her work includes assisting with freehold purchases and sales, strata purchases and sales, refinances, subdivisions, construction financing, commercial purchases, and sale and
private financing.

With her energy and professionalism, Heather brings enthusiasm and dedication to everything she does. Sheis a valued member of our Veritas Law team.

In her spare time, Heather enjoys kickboxing, getting outdoors, and exploring the hiking trails of the North Shore.

Marietta Botwright works out of our West Vancouver office as our bookkeeper and office manager. She also tackles the accounting (receivables, payables, trust accounting, pay roll) at the firm. Her many years of experience as a small business owner makes her invaluable to the running of Veritas Law.

Marietta’s role can be summarized succinctly as: ‘problem solver’ – her motto is “everything is fixable”. In her diverse background, Marietta has also been involved with various Vancouver businesses; she has been a bookkeeper for about 35 years; and, has become a valuable member of the Vancouver community, not least of all
because of her extraordinary involvement with various Vancouver clubs and associations.

In her spare time, Marietta is an oil painter, field hockey enthusiast, and avid world traveller.

Sue-Ann practiced law in Singapore in a major Singapore law firm for 16 years before moving to Vancouver in 1999.

Sue-Ann’s practice currently encompasses real estate law, corporate and commercial law, wills and estates and general solicitors’ work. Sue-Ann’s clients come from various backgrounds with different needs, and her goal is to provide practical, effective legal advice that would best suit the individual’s needs. And sometimes just a
listening ear. Clients have often become friends, which makes practice so much more enjoyable, meaningful and relevant.

Having lived in the North Shore since Sue-Ann moved to Vancouver, she has noticed a visible demographic shift. The North Shore is now home to many Asian immigrants. Sue-Ann’s ability to converse in Mandarin and Cantonese is a great asset in her dealings with the Chinese speaking population. It is good to hear from a number of realtors that they are happy that they found a Mandarin/Cantonese speaking lawyer in the North
Shore for their clients. Sue-Ann is a wonderful addition to the Veritas Law team.

Hiking, gym work outs, cycling and baking are just some of the activities Sue-Ann looks forward to in her free time.
